Lead Civil / Structural Engineer – Mining Company

Project Location: North Sulawesi, Indonesia (Project Site + Jakarta Office)

Job Purpose

The Lead Civil / Structural Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and assurance for all civil and structural engineering activities on the Mining Project. This includes brownfield site development, foundations for new process equipment, structural steel design, earthworks, concrete works, and integration with the existing operating plant. The role ensures designs are safe, cost-effective, constructible, and compliant with Indonesian and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all civil and structural engineering design for the expansion, including Option A (Old Location) and Option B (New Location) evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain the Civil & Structural Basis of Design.
  • Review and approve key deliverables: Plot Plans, Foundation Drawings, Structural Steel Drawings, Earthworks Specifications, and Geotechnical Reports.
  • Ensure all designs incorporate brownfield tie-in requirements with minimal disruption to the existing operating plant.
  • Lead constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews for civil/structural scope.

FEED & Detailed Design Phase

  • Provide civil/structural input during Feasibility Study and FEED phases.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical consultants and ensure adequate soil investigation and foundation design.
  • Review and approve civil/structural deliverables from engineering consultants (Ausenco, Zeal Engineering, Lycopodium, etc.).
  • Identify and manage long-lead civil items (e.g., heavy foundations, large steel structures).

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure all civil and structural designs comply with relevant Indonesian codes (SNI, PU regulations), international standards (ACI, AISC, Eurocode, AS), and project safety requirements.
  • Support AMDAL and environmental permitting from a civil/structural perspective.
  • Incorporate seismic design requirements suitable for North Sulawesi.

Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Act as the primary civil/structural interface between the Owner’s team, engineering consultants, EPC contractors, and Operations.
  • Mentor and guide junior civil/structural engineers within the Owner’s team.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and risk workshops with focus on civil/structural aspects.

Cost, Schedule & Quality

  • Support the development of accurate civil/structural cost estimates during FEED (±10–15% accuracy).
  • Monitor civil/structural progress against the project schedule and raise early warnings on potential delays.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives to optimize concrete volumes, steel tonnage, and foundation designs.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 12–15 years of experience in civil/structural engineering
  • At least 8 years in mining or mineral processing plant projects (gold processing experience is highly advantageous)
  • Proven experience as Lead Civil/Structural Engineer on at least one brownfield expansion project (US$200M+)
  • Strong knowledge of Indonesian design codes (SNI) and international standards
  • Experience working in Indonesia (especially Sulawesi or similar seismic zones)

Preferred:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status
  • Previous Owner’s team experience
  • Familiarity with modular construction and heavy equipment foundations
