Sales Engineer (Vessel Connectivity & Onboard Services) – Satellite Industries Company
The Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting Client’s commercial efforts by providing technical expertise, solution design, and pre-sales support for all maritime connectivity and onboard service offerings. This role acts as the technical bridge between clients, the commercial team, and the Client global technical ecosystem—ensuring that every proposed solution is technically sound, competitively positioned, and aligned with customer operational needs.
The Sales Engineer does not perform installations or field work; instead, they focus on technical advisory, solution architecture, customer engagement, and coordination to enable successful sales and onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Pre-Sales Support
    • Assist the commercial team in identifying customer needs and translating them into Client-aligned technical solutions.
    • Participate in client meetings to explain solution architecture, system capabilities, coverage options, and service performance expectations.
    • Produce technical inputs for proposals, including solution descriptions, system diagrams, technical annexes, and compliance documents.
    • Conduct preliminary assessments of vessel requirements (fleet size, current equipment, operational profile, etc…).

  1. Solution Design & Configuration
    • Design customized connectivity solutions involving VSAT, Iridium, Kineis, GSM, hybrid systems, onboard networks, and Client value-added services.
    • Ensure solutions are technically feasible, operationally efficient, and aligned with Client product standards.
    • Coordinate with Client global technical teams and product managers for validation of non-standard requests.
    • Support quotation preparation with accurate technical specifications and relevant options.

  1. Customer Engagement & Relationship Support
    • Serve as a technical point of contact for clients during pre-sales, negotiation, onboarding, and early service phases.
    • Present Client technologies, platforms, and onboard services in workshops, demonstrations, trade shows, and client visits.
    • Build strong trust-based relationships with fleet managers, technical superintendents, captains, and maritime authorities.
    • Identify opportunities for upselling additional services or optimizations based on client feedback.

  1. Internal Coordination
    • Work closely with the service coordinator and operations teams to ensure smooth handover from sales to service delivery.
    • Provide internal teams with the technical context necessary for installation planning, equipment selection, and service provisioning.
    • Support the commercial team with technical clarifications during tender responses and contract negotiations.
    • Collaborate with Client regional and global engineering teams to maintain updated knowledge on solutions and new product releases.

  1. Market & Product Expertise
    • Continuously stay updated on satellite networks, maritime connectivity technologies, competitor solutions, and industry developments.
    • Share market insights with commercial leadership to guide strategy, pricing, and product positioning.
    • Provide feedback to Client global teams regarding customer needs, product performance, and new feature requests.


Skills & Competencies

  1. Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of satellite communications
  • Knowledge of onboard vessel IT networks, routers, antennas, IoT devices, or vessel monitoring systems.
  • Ability to assess technical requirements and design complete solution packages.
  • Comfortable explaining technical concepts in a simple, customer-friendly manner.

2. Commercial & Soft Skills

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with the ability to build long-term relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, operations, logistics, and support teams.

3. Tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with diagramming tools (Visio, Draw.io) for solution architecture.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Marine Electronics, IT, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in maritime connectivity, satellite communications, or technical pre-sales roles.
  • Previous exposure to maritime clients or vessel operations is an advantage.
  • Strong English communication skills; Bahasa Indonesia preferred.

Reporting Line
Reports directly to the CEO / Commercial Lead of Client, with close functional collaboration with Client global product and engineering teams.
